Major Learning Outcome 5: Community Pathway
In order to complete this outcome you were able to do study abroad or pick two reading done while at CSUMB, pick a topic and interview two people in your community. I did not have the opportunity to do Study Abroad so I did the second pathway. I decided to talk about immigration based on the book Across a Hundred Mountains and The Distance Between Us both by Reyna Grande. I believed that it was a subject that was pretty big in my community. Many of them crossed the boarder illegally and were working in the fields trying to provided a better future for their family. I wanted there story to be heard, having them tell me briefly what it was like for them to cross the frontera from first hand I felt was a must. I believe that we take the field workers for granted and they do a lot for our community and they need to be heard. The two people I interview both had similarities to the characters in both books. Like many immigrated they wanted to provided a better future for their family and they had struggles like the character to cross the boarder but the American dream was a lot bigger than the fear of crossing the border
