Spanish 304: Intro to Hispanic Literature
Course description:
This course introduces the principles of literary analysis, based on reading and discussion of Hispanic literary texts. Includes fiction, drama, essay, and poetry from Spain and Spanish America.
Course Narrative:
This course was one of the most challenging one I had my first year at CSUMB. Although, it was also one of my favorite ones as well. I would say that every story we read left me more amazed with literature in Spanish. We were able to travel back in time with each reading we did, for example we got to experience running away from the Aztecs in the Noche Boca Arriba by Julio Cortazar that left us confused at the end of the story. Or how we were able to feel the pain of the father having to carry his son on his back to save his life and how the son doesn't seems to care about his father in, No Oyes Ladrar Los Perros by Juan Rulfo. We also got to feel the words in the poems in Sor Juana de Inez. I enjoyed how we would be able to discuss in groups about the readings and get different perspectives from their understanding of the readings or the poetry. I believe that Hispanic Literature is important since it gives us the story based on the culture background at the time of the story.
