Span 345: Bilingualism in Spanish World
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will first explore the nature of bilingualism, focusing on its neurolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and linguistic aspects. Students will examine the most important concepts and research questions in these areas. In addition, the class will focus on bilingualism in the United States and the Spanish-speaking world, including the examination of bilingual education programs (e.g., immersion programs) and important political matters connected to them
Course Narrative:
This course I took my last year at CSUMB in Spring 2020. I took this course because the title of the course grabbed my attention. We did readings regarding bilingualism. I learned many things I did not know. We learned that its better learning another language at a younger age rather than later on. For example at the age of 3 they kids already know the native language. We also learned about language diasorders caused by localized cerebral lesions. This course was very interesting to me the class disscussions we had in class regarding the reading were very helpful. Sadly due to COVID-19 the course had to take another turn. Although we met Via Zoom the discussions were not the same as in person. The professor did all that was possible to keep the readings and the discussions the same as if we were in person.
