Spanish 315: Introduction to Translation: Spanish/English
Course Description:
Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail.
Course Narrative: MLO1
This course was very different from any of the Spanish classes I had taken before. The course grab my attention, I always wanted to better my translation. Before taking this course I thought being a translator would be easy, but now I know it takes a lot more than just being bilingual. I in particular enjoyed this course, the activities we did in class made me work on how to translate from English to Spanish, vise versa. After taking this course I now know that I do not want to be a translator since it is not an easy task. I enjoyed how the professor let us work in groups to translate the handouts he assigned us. Another thing I liked about the course was when the professor had guest speakers come and gave us an example of how it is to be a translator.
